Android 4.4 Kitkat

Next Version of Android Operating System is Android 4.4 Kitkat Not Android 5.0.



Sundar Pichai, the Android and Chrome head has confirmed the naming scheme of the next version of Android. Android 4.4 KitKat is named after Neslte's popular candy bar, which is trademarked and licensed by Hershey in the US.
Google also says that "it's our goal with Android KitKat to make an amazing Android experience available for everybody". The bold statement also suggests that Google plans to make use of its next iteration of Android in smartwatches, gaming consoles and other electronic gadgets.
Sundar Pichai, in his Google+ post also revealed that Android device activations have now passed 1 billion and says he "can't wait to release the next version of the platform."
Here's the list of past Android versions with the dessert naming scheme:

  1. Android 1.5: Cupcake
  2. Android 1.6: Donut
  3. Android 2.0: Eclair
  4. Android 2.2: Froyo
  5. Android 2.3: Gingerbread
  6. Android 3.0: Honeycomb
  7. Android 4.0: Ice Cream Sandwich
  8. Android 4.1: Jelly Bean
  9. Android 4.2: Jelly Bean
  10. Android 4.3: Jelly Bean
  11. Android 4.4: KitKat
