How to Preventing Diabetes

5 Tips for Preventing Diabetes

  • Rigorous Sprinting  :  High intensity exercise can bring down the glucose levels in blood significantly. Exercises like sprinting, long distance swimming and other rigorous manoeuvres deplete glucose from muscles because of which the muscles draw glucose out of blood cells to compensate for the loss.
  • Aerobics : Aerobics is one of the tried and tested exercises, which benefits diabetics. Aerobics includes certain exercises, which causes the body to utilise more oxygen. It helps the body regulate glucose and insulin levels in the blood. However, aerobics can prove to be a bit strenuous for diabetics as generally they are out of shape. It is preferable to start out with low intensity aerobic exercises at first and then scale up the intensity with time.
  • Weight Training : It is not advisable for diabetics to take up heavy weight training but researches have proved that moderate weight and strength training can substantially benefit people suffering from diabetes. Simple exercises such as lunges, squats, sit-ups and free weights are advisable for diabetics. It is preferable to keep the frequency of such exercises lower as they can strain out the body of a diabetic. Preferably a half an hour session thrice a week should be sufficient for most patients. With practice one can certainly amp up the frequency.
  • Flexibility Exercises : Both dynamic and static stretching exercises like Pilates have proven to have positive effects on diabetics. It is recommended to do flexibility exercises in conjunction with weight training to get maximum results.
  • Yoga: Yoga is hailed as one of the most effective methods to cope up with diabetes. Yoga incorporates a unique blend of flexibility as well as strength training. It has been also proven effective in enhancing the function of endocrine organs. Other benefits of yoga include better circulation, digestion and immunity, which can indirectly benefit a diabetic. Yoga also enhances the energy levels and helps one feel healthier.
